The K-Drama That Made Me Fall in Love with Dramaland

There’s always that one drama — the one that pulls you in, breaks your heart, makes you laugh, heals you again, and leaves you completely obsessed. For me, that drama was Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016).

Yes, I’m a sucker for good old K-dramas — and this one changed everything for me.

I didn’t know what I was getting into. I started watching it late one night out of curiosity, expecting a lighthearted historical love story. What I got instead was a sweeping emotional rollercoaster filled with unforgettable characters, breathtaking cinematography, and plot twists that had me gasping in bed at 2 a.m.

Before Moon Lovers, I had seen a few K-dramas I really liked — but this was something different.

This story grabbed my heart and never let go.

The aesthetic? Absolutely stunning.

The soundtrack? Heart-shattering.

The characters? Deep, layered, and impossible to forget.

But what really tore me apart?

The love triangle — it wrecked me in ways I wasn’t prepared for. The tension between the princes, the unspoken longing, the emotional weight of every choice — it all hit so hard.

Let’s talk about Hae Soo (Lee Ji-eun), the true heart of the story.

One minute, she’s an ordinary woman in modern-day Seoul. The next, she’s waking up in the body of a noble lady in the Goryeo era. Her character growth is one of the most powerful arcs I’ve seen in a drama.

She goes from cheerful and curious to guarded and emotionally wounded.

From a girl simply trying to survive… to a woman who changes the fate of kings.

She loves deeply, even when it hurts.

Her relationship with Wang Wook (Kang Ha-neul), the eighth prince, is soft and sweet — but it crumbles under the weight of fear and ambition.

Then there’s Wang So (Lee Joon-gi), the fourth prince. Their love is passionate, tragic, and unforgettable — full of longing, miscommunication, and moments too beautiful to last.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo didn’t just introduce me to Dramaland. It cracked open my heart, made me cry at the soundtrack, and left me with a K-drama obsession I wear proudly.
